Hey guys,
Sorry that we haven't been keeping this updated as much as you'd like us to, but we've been extremely busy with stuff in real life. School's been pretty good at keeping us pinned down so far. We've barely had any time to play Halo: Reach, let alone make videos with it.

So, here's what you came for. The announcements. The Ultimatum remake (which will also continue the story), will be undergoing a big format change. The main problem with the set up of the series is that the episodes are just too long, and it takes a lot of energy to make just one (hence the huge gaps between the episodes.). So each episode will have approximately 4-5 minutes of machinimation, and 2 minutes for intros/ credits. This will allow us to make the episodes far more quickly, and hopefully more frequently.

Once, again we're sorry that we've been keeping you guys waiting.

Ultimatum .5 Episodes

Hey Ultimatum viewers,

This blogpost is to announce a new format in Ultimatum. As most of you know, most (if not all) of the screen time in Ultimatum is devoted to the NASFC troops. The Rebels however are essentially left in the dark and viewers aren't really aware of why the Rebels are the "bad side". So with these new installments after every episode, you will recieve a bit more insight into the rebel cause.

Ultimatum Ep. 3 Update

Hey guys this is just an update on the third episode. Almost all recording has been done, and only a couple of scenes remain. The editing is about 60% done, but some shots require more attention. The ones that we're talking about are the ones that require depth-of-field, masking and some of the shots have way too much colour correction (even by our standards). We hope that we'll be able to deliver, because of the long wait

Back From Hiatus and New Videos

Well, we're officially back from hiatus and full it's now full steam ahead on Ultimatum Episode 3. We're going to see if we can wrap up filming tomorrow. The hiatus wasn't exactly a vacation, nor is this. We're also going to see if we can pick up the pace a little on these episodes, because let's face it, about four episodes a year is pretty abysmal.

Anyways, in terms of videos we've been releasing little short videos of the content that we have already edited, but were too busy to release to the general public. So, in chronological order here are the videos we have released and a little description to accompany it.

Depth of Field Test
     A short video we made to test out a new depth of field technique we've implemented in editing. It's a rather simplistic technique, but it takes a while to implement, and not EVERY single shot has it.

Ultimatum Episode 3 Trailer in HD
     A reissue of the original video, re-shot in high definition. There are also the implementations of the techniques we've been using.

Ultimatum New Intro Sequence
     A new introduction sequence to the future episodes. Because we had three voice actors leaving/ being fired, we only had three names to fill in.

Canuck Films Hiatus

Hey there guys,
As of the start of June, we are officially on hiatus. This hiatus is being caused, because our exams are coming up. We know we have been delaying a lot of stuff recently, and we are sorry, but we wouldn't have done so unless we thought it was absolutely important. And these exams ARE of the utmost importance to the both of us. But do not fear, we will be returning at the end of June, where we will try to release the next episode of Ultimatum. Once again, we know it has been a while, but we aren't being paid to do this. We are doing this for practical experience.

Hey guys,

We've been quite busy over here at Canuck Films. With our new Hauppauge HD PVR we are working on bringing you guys better viewing quality, at 720p. Full quality versions can not be hosted on the internet without expensive memberships on video websites or splitting the video into parts. Overall, we are very satisfied with the Hauppauge unit itself. The sleek design, LEDs, software and the quality are very nice. The LEDs on the front of the units let Blackbirdxps15, our camera guy know whenever he's capturing or not (previously files would go ghost, because we forgot to hit capture), the software is also easy to use and relatively crash-free and the quality is amazing compared to our old DVC 170.

Here's a brief test conducted with the Hauppauge. Not our best video, but here you go:

The video has stirred quite the war on Machinima.com. But we remained calm and polite throughout the discussion. Thanks to Ukilledkenny7 for getting our backs, we are once again in his debt.

On another note, scripts are going up on Triond.com as we speak, but if you want a personal copy, with all of the; proper spacing, numbered pages, etc, we have versions up on Filefront.com as PDFs. Enjoy them.

Last, but not least, for the entirety of the month of April, Blackbirdxps15 had embarked on the script writing frenzy known as ScriptFrenzy. The sole objective being to write 100 pages during the month of April. The story he wrote is about the story of Ultimatum before the series' start. You can view it here, via download on Filefront. Ultimatum Episode 3 Trailer + Status Update

Why hello there,

We've put up the Ultimatum Episode 3 trailer, links are at the end of this post. The trailer contains actual Ultimatum episode 3 footage and a lot more colour correcting. This episode will be a substantial improvement from its predecessors, both in terms of cinematography and editing.

In other news, shooting for Ultimatum Episode 3 has been going steadily and is expected to be continued and finished today. We're extremely sorry for the long delay, but it couldn't be helped as we are both very busy with school and other stuff.

Ultimatum Update

Progress on Ultimatum Episode 3 is taking its sweet ass time, but don't worry we'll have a quality video out by the end of this month. We've been filming, editing, and having to deal with voice crew stuff.

We have the first minute of Ultimatum Episode 3, which will be the trailer for the episode. We don't have an ETA yet on this trailer, but expect it soon. The trailer will have noticeably more colour correction than our previous videos, because, lets face it. Who wants to watch ANOTHER bland halo 3 machinima?

Filming has been going steadily, we have the first few scenes done. Some of the shots are going to be tricky, and may require outside help, but no confirmation on that either.

Lastly, our voice crew has been noticeably reduced. As of this moment; Zac117, Itsnoturday and TNTVader have left our voice crew. Zac117 willingly resigned, and we're sorry to see him go, but he is free to rejoin anytime he sees fit. Itsnoturday has not been delivering his lines on time, and therefore he's been let go, and the same goes for TNTvader.

Assassins (Halo 3 Machinima Short)

Hey guys,
We made a little machinima short inorder to test out our new equipment. Needless to say, it works. We put on a lot of visual effects in editing, not only to make it look less like Halo 3, but to put the gear to the test. This video took about 30 minutes to render, which is pretty good, compared to the two hours with the old equipment. Anyways, enjoy.

Status Update

Sorry for the lack of news recently, we've been extremely busy here at Canuck Films. We have concepts for new machinimas and we have some being made right now.

As you know, we received our PC upgrades, but they have yet to be tested seriously. So inorder to remedy this, we made a machinima, codenamed Assassins. We're also going to compile a bunch of PC gameplay footage,
and render it in 1080p.

Anyways, voice actors for Ultimatum should have their lines in by Saturday, Sunday at the latest. Filming will definitely start next week and we intend to actually film instead of being lazy bastards. If you want filming to go even faster, get your friends to come on out and subscribe. Seriously, if there`s enough of you, than we start to feel the pressure.

Troubleshooting Technology

All of the upgrades have been locked and loaded, sorry we couldn't take pictures, a friend borrowed our camera. Anyways, if it weren't for the Olympic Games, we would be making videos right now.

But, don't despair, because we will make a short render test of Fallout 3 PC, and a render test with CoD 4.

As for the status on Ultimatum Episode 3, it is slow coming and only about three of the voice actors are done. Actual filming should be carried out in March, when the Olympic Games end. We have all of the storyboards and maps worked out, but we're just too busy to actually act stuff out.

New hardware

Another change over here in Canada.

We here at Canuck Films will be upgrading our Desktop PC and using it for editing rather than the laptop. Render times will expectedly be at killer speeds and editing should go way faster, than before. We upgraded our PSU, GPU, RAM, Speaker set, and added a Samsung 1000GB hard drive (to accommodate for the large amount of files that will need to be stored.)

Here is the list of parts, in the above mentioned order (all pictures yet to be taken.

A Few Changes

There will be a few noticeable changes happening to Canuck Films machinima within the next coming months, here's a quick run through of the "changes".

Storyboards
There is a serious lack of planning here, due to laziness... I mean lack of resources... yeah. There will be more planning of how the camera shots are laid out, expected result will be better continuity and less breaking of cinematographical rules and conventions, that we don't follow sometimes.

Camera Work
Way too similar to Digitalph33r, with only a few Roosterteeth influenced techniques here. The shaky, cloverfield style of camera will now only appear rarely. The more fluent and smooth Roosterteeth style will be blended with our own style and we will try to make our angles look more original and have a bit more meaning.

Nothing too flashy, just a brief little animation.

Ok, this post is to address those of you who wish to be voice actors for our machinima, Ultimatum. So, for the sake of convenience here are a few guidelines, FAQs, and the like on how to send us a proper auditon.

General e-mail outline

Name/ Online Alias: (DO NOT USE YOUR REAL FULL NAME, First names are preferred.)
Gender:
Timezone:
Nationality:
Vocal Range: (Low, mid, or high)

Lines To Read
These lines that are going to be in your audition. If there IS an exclamation mark, read the line out loud. If there are three, scream it.

Start by reading your e-mail out line first.

"Hey! Cover me, I'm reloading!"
"Cover me! I'm putting in another mag!"
"Corpsman! I'm hit!" Keep in mind that "Corpsman" is pronounced like "core-man".
"Careful! We've got "civvies" in the area!"
"Watch your fire! There are civilians here!"
"Rebel technical!"
"Rebels at our ten 'o clock position!"
"Grenade!!!"
"Holy shit! They killed Private Ryan!"
"Cover fire!!!"
"Ten-plus footmobiles!"
"Frag out!"

Preferred File Format

We prefer mp3s, WAVs or even WMAs. Others are acceptable, but we'd prefer the afforementioned formats.

Send all auditions to XPS15films@gmail.com. We'll review it in a few hours and let you know if you qualify. In that email, you will recieve your character(s) on the script, which will come as a .pdf file.

FAQ

Q.How old do you have to be?
A. There is no age requirement, but if you are under the age of 15 and are male, and your voice hasn't deepened yet, we really don't care. Just deepen your voice with audacity, to a believable point.

Q. Why is the Gender/ Nationality thing there?
A.1. The gender field is there, so we have some idea of who is sending the email. At no point will we discriminate against anybody, just because of their gender.

A.2. So we know where generally everyone is. The voice cast is already an international group, with actors from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Q. What if I have a (Put in name of accent) accent?
A.1. Don't worry about it. There is an unexplored part of Ultimatum, which includes international soldiers intervening in the North American civil conflict. So don't be afraid to use your accent.

Q. Can I use my full name?
A. We generally advise against this. If you can use an online alias of some sort. If your alias is your channel name, we'd be more than happy to link it in our video-description.

Q. How long can I take for one episode?
A. Generally the deadlines are about a month long, but extensions are allowed if we aren't making too much head-way on the actual filming.

What The Hell is Going On?!

Well, by now all of you guys are probably wondering "What the hell is going on over there?!". To be fair, we have been slacking off with the machinima. Simply put with school, a vacation and other stuff, were slowing down quite a bit.

School is taking up quite a chunk of our time, and we are literally buried in a mountain of work. Here's basically our schedule: Wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, get crap-load of work dumped on us, get home, start doing said crap-load of work, dinner, get back to work on crap-load of work, if time alloted play Modern Warfare 2 or H3: ODST, take laptop up to bedroom to finish (or attempt to) crap-load of work, wake up at 5:00 am to finish anything off.

We also left for a vacation back on the 15th, and besides doing nothing productive, it was mildly relaxing. We arrived back on the 31st at 11pm, to witness the awe-inspiring new years celebrations and we slept 'till 10 am.

So, the machinima is NEARLY done, it's just a few small segments that need to be wrapped up. Editing is pretty much taken care of, but complications are expected to arise. We will try to work on the machinima as soon as we've cleared our exams on Wednesday (The exams start on Friday 22nd and end the 29th), giving us a couple of days to finish it off.

We apologize for the heavy amount of delays, we will try to make shorts in between episodes to keep you guys entertained and to get more subscribers.

Well we've got the first 6 minutes of episode all done, we're going to finish the last few scenes tonight and hopefully edit them by the next day. We'll probably release it before December 5th. Also, we are leaving for vacation on December 15th and we won't be back until January 1st. We'll probably dispatch the scripts before we leave to our voice actors, our little Christmas present to them, I suppose, in a menacing way. But to be more generous, I'll extend the deadline a bit, to accommodate the various holidays. We'll also have limited internet access on our little vacation, and if you guys do post any awesome comments, or get your buddies to subscribe, we won't hear about it, unfortunately. Anyways, enough rambling and back to work.

Videos will no longer be in HD

Our videos will no longer appear as HD, for one simple reason. We upscale every video. This makes the picture quality look worse, because were stretching it out so much. Our input footage is 720 x 480 and the output is usually 1280 x 720 which is roughly a 1.5 times stretch. We're also wasting time rendering, because HD wmvs take a hell of a long time. We're wasting space, because of the large file sizes and we're just wasting time uploading. All future videos will be appearing in the input resolution of the Dazzle DVC 170, when we upgrade our equipment, then the videos will be in true 720p.

Ultimatum Episode 2's script is just about done, it'll be rolled out to the voice actors some time next week. It's a relatively short script, but it's action packed, with twists and turns. It'll soon be body acting hell over here at Canuckfilms, as we furiously struggle to act out a war with four controllers. We'll shoot the important story elements first.

Anyways, a section of Ultimatum Episode 2 trailer (dubbed Hysteria) has been filmed, we are still waiting on two voice actors, expect this within two weeks.

Episode 2 is now in the works, but school is slowing our progress. The script is in the works, and it will be dispatched to the voice actors. It's a tad shorter dialogue-wise, because there is a hell of a lot of shooting and action going on. Episode name is pending, a trailer may be uploaded to keep the pace going. Also, if we don't have enough time we may work on a few shorts and remakes.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but things have been a little dis-organized here. 2 weeks ago we were about to leave for a trip to the US, when I discovered that the Sony Vegas project wouldn't open. We tried everything to reopen it (reinstalls, new saves, copy and pasting, etc.) Nothing. So then we left for the US where we spent four days. The first moment I opened that door, I unpacked and got to work. The video is in about 3 (or 4) parts, Each 10 minutes in length.

So far Part 1 is uploaded (but kept to Private mode on youtube). Part 1 starts up a bit slow with a couple of flashbacks, a few conversations and the rest is pure combat.

Part 2 which is only missing a few clips has a lot of heavy combat and will probably be the best to watch. I'll finish, clean-up, render and upload tommorow and get started on Part 3.

Part 3 It'll be a bit slow, but have suspense and combat scenes sprinkled on top. Also in this part you'll get to know the main characters a bit better (Where they come from, their family, etc.) Sgt. Jackson is omitted, because the prologue was basically his huge flashback. The main purpose is to build suspense for the next episode.

Part 4 may not exist because I don't think the episode is going to be this long, but if it does than it'll hold the credits, and be incredibly similar to Part 3.

It's been about a month and I know it's been nearly two, but be patient. This thing is over the size of a US standard half an hour tv program without commercials which is about 21 minutes. We'll try to wrap everything up this week, but no gurantees.

Since were using the Call of Duty 4 sounds there is a little bit of a difference, but not seriously noticeable. We've eliminated the bump whenever possible. Ultimatum Episode 1: Extraction

The rebels close in on their objective, but the Sgt. Jackson's squad (Under the leadership of LT. Walker) are waging their last furious struggle as they await their extraction. Meanwhile Rebel Lieutenant General Kohaku Yamato deals with the insubordination of his troops. General Yamato and his troops are the least of NASFC's troubles as the Rebel leader is about to unleash a deadly Ultimatum. Will the squad escape the strangle hold of the Rebels or will the snowy landscape of Canada mark their graves?

This was done over a period of about a year near this very time. On a hot summer day FPS_Gamer and I were bored and I said "Hey I've got an idea for a Machinima." so I pitched and we expanded. It was dramatically different back then, but the core idea is still there. The only characters that made it through with their personality intact were LT. Cole Walker (Longshotbrit1993) and CPL. Drake Wu (Markkoh). Also, the base was supposed to be at Sandtrap (which at the time seemed like a good idea), but then Avalanche came along and it was better equiped for the job.

The whole film was acted out by two people and four controllers, no more and no less.

OMG! You know how I said that it would take longer than forerunner? Well no shit. It took 9 hours!!! I finally cut down on the amount of video tracks, media and disabled the sony vegas video preview and it's still 9 god damned hours!!! The Vimeo version will take 4.5 hours (I predict). So in short the Vimeo version will take shorter to upload than the Youtube version.

Ultimatum has so far proved difficult and problematic to render. It has just under 20 video tracks in sony vegas and it also ate right through the editing Laptop's video card. So what did I decide to do? I brought out the heavy artilery. The Acer Desktop Computer has our most powerful video card, with 256mb of video RAM. I thought it was enough.... and unsurprisingly it wasn't. We'll now have to cut down on the amount of tracks and media used by forging the soundtrack in Audacity and redoing the effects in after effects. It's a good thing I've tried to render early...

As of this moment, we are starting over. As you may or may not know, our account got suspended by that DJ guy with the ridiculous name that is so long that I am not even going to bother to copy paste into this post.

Now if you are wondering why we changed our name to "Canuck Films", we did it because we thought it was a great name considering we are Canadian and all. As well as that, our favourite hockey team is the Vancouver Canucks who DID NOT LOSE THIS PLAYOFF SEASON! *Sniff* Ok well they did, they'll win next year, or the year after that. Atleast they aren't as bad as our second favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Enough aboot hockey now.

We will be re-posting two videos - Fallout 3: Blowing Up Megaton, and the Ultimatum trailer. Oh and we will changing which videos we make, meaning we won't make achievement videos as often anymore. If you really liked those videos, ask us to make more and we will for the games we own. We aren't going to buy a game, just to make an achievement video.

We'll give you guys a more indepth update later but the only thing we'll tell you is that Ultimatum is 75 percent done.

1/2 way done Pilot episode and...

Well, I'm almost done editing the pilot episode. It might be a little boring, because I have to get A HELL OF A LOT of back story out of the way, so I don't have to slow down the first one as much. There are a few camera angle touches that I've added that you can't pull of in halo 3 theater mode. The music selection has been a little easier with Garageband.com, they've got a massive library and some of the stuff they've got, tops some of the professional stuff I've seen.

Also, on our collaboration project; it's going a little slow, but it's getting done. I've been preparing for exams and I've been devoting most of my spare time to Ultimatum and some to the collaboration.

I am looking for voice actors for an upcoming machinima that I've named: Ultimatum. It uses the Halo engine. Below is information about the machinima and roles (I tried to add a little bit of diversity into the names.)

About the Machinima
It is set in year 2570 (after the events of Halo 3) and Earth is in shambles, with UNSC forces numbers dwindling, the UNSC finds itself struggling to keep Earth under order. In the middle of all of this a large Rebel Regime has assembled, large in size but lacking in proper training. The main character: Joseph (a.k.a Joe) Jackson has suffered at the hands of these rebels, seeks vengeance and joins the UNSC at the age of 18, but little does he know, he's getting more than he bargained for.

Ultimatum Trailer

In truth it didn't take that long to make, but we worked extremely hard to make it a satisfying one. The first season will be released on July 1st (Coincidentally Canada Day), but this doesn't mean the first episode alone, it means an entire season that will be released at a 1 episode/week rate.

An Update

Welcome, to whoever reads this. (We still don't know if anyone reads this).
A couple of updates in the XPS15 Films world. So, before I forget any important detail, let's dive straight into it.

First of all, were finalizing the script on the whole 3/4/09 dealy, and this will be a departure from our usual style of mild comedy, whilst utilizing shaky and serious camera angles. This will be something fully, SERIOUS. It might be a little cheesy and stuff, but it'll have a good amount of action and were devoting all of our resources to it. We'll announce details in February.

Second of all, we might be making a short series. This series will comprise of comedic shorts. And, no this is nothing like matchmaking, before you can accuse us of plagiarism (if you didn't than, give yourself a generous pat on the back and run out and buy yourself something nice.) Details will be announced next week.

Third of all, the biggest question would have to be "When is the next video going to be out?" Well, as script writer for XPS15 Films, I really don't have a clear idea. We might execute our series of shorts, but for now... I really don't know what's next. (We'll update you when we have an idea).

Lastly, I don't know.

Working On a Couple of Things and about Mohammad...

Hey,
I still don't know if anyone's reading this, but we are working on two videos, simultaneously. The first one, (that I'm not going to give much details on) is an estimated 10 minute short. The second one is about a character that you all know; Captain Dan Green. We've decided to give him the job of answering some of your Youtube comments, most good, some bad. Back on the topic of the first one... the script is done and awaiting revision, voice work will begin tommorow and the one focusing on Dan Green is still in conception.

Moving forwards once again, this was a gigantic oversight by myself. We accidentally misspelled "Mohammad's" Name. No offence to you, good sir (Were only human), it was a minor oversight, because we know someone with the same name but spells it with an "e" as opposed to an "a" (like: Mohammed instead of Mohammad), but that's the cool thing about diverse names, there's no RIGHT way to spell it, so it probably doesn't matter. (Send us a Youtube message if it DOES)

Well, back to Celtx, we have a script to revise.

We just think that we'd bring up some Frequently Asked Questions in this post, so you don't have to send us YouTube messages, and we have to read the same question over and over again.

Q. Who are you guys?

A. We're currently a two man team that is working to bring viewers quality machinima entertainment in various engines.

Q. Are you affiliated with the Vancouver Canucks?

A. No, we aren't.

Q. What do you guys do?

A. We make movies with video games, essentially. This is because we don't actually have the resources to actually go out and film a war epic. We also make game/social commentaries now.

Q. Can I be in your films as a body/ voice actor?

A: It depends on the situation, send us an e-mail at xps15@gmail.com.

Q. I have a good idea, wanna use it?

A: Sure thing. Send us an e-mail and if we like it, you'll get 99% of the revenue /sarcasm. But seriously, we like to do our own thing.

Q. Can you help me with my machinima?

A: It depends, send us an e-mail at xps15@gmail.com.

Q. Whats your standard doctrine for making a machinima?

A. A vague question, but this is generally how it goes: We generally conceive an idea, write out a full screenplay in Celtx, after that we voice record, then we make a series of crude images in Photoshop as our storyboard, we then make our sets in the game of our choice, next we act out the scenes locally with four controllers between the two of us, then we start capturing and finally edit the video. This process usually takes a couple of months, because we are usually busy with stuff in real life.

Q: What's your standard doctrine for making a commentary?

A: Also a vague question. But if there's no videos out and production is going slow on the latest project, then we'll just slap together something quick - usually a commentary on games, or maybe a social commentary.

Q: When will the next episode of whatever you're working be out?

A: When it's out =)

A minor delay on our latest project, Sony Vegas has crashed and burned a couple of times, and by a couple we mean a couple dozen. Also, we had to add additional scenes to add to the comedic side of the machinima. We'll have it up by tonight (10:00p.m. EST(latest)).

It's me, Bravo189. I'm the script, voice and editing guy. I'm just posting this update so you can see what's happening here at XPS15 Films... so here it goes.

There's a new machinima coming up, I'll release details later (if anyone bothers to read this). Fps_gamer123 (The body acting, secondary script person) have put a lot of consideration into this and we hope that you like it, because this is the first time that we've ever put a SERIOUS EFFORT into one of these things.

--ACHIEVEMENT GUIDE RELATED--
There will be fewer and fewer achievement guides with the oncoming year, but rest assured there will still be plenty that we can dole out if we don't have anything better to do. But if your that concerned about their future, go vote for them in the poll titled; What Do You Want To See More? Possible achievement guides for games are Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 1, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 and Assassin's Creed (In level of priority)
